Join Ryerson as an EHS Manager. In this pivotal role, you will lead initiatives to ensure full compliance with provincial and federal environmental and safety regulations across all our Canadian facilities. This position requires not only a strategic leader but also a collaborative partner who will work closely with the Ryerson Corporate EHS Department to drive continuous improvements in our safety culture.

 

This position will work out of Ryerson’s Brampton, ON branch, located at 7525 Financial Dr. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in developing, implementing, and managing EHS programs across all Canadian locations
  • Ensure compliance requirements are implemented and maintained (both internal Ryerson and external, provincial & federal requirements)
  • Audit, enhance and design EHS training for all employees including new Lead Hands, Supervisors, & Managers.
  • Implement and coordinate safety programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries.
  • Audit the JHSC at each branch; verify members are adequately trained and committee meets provincial standards to help drive positive performance and continuous improvement in our safety culture
  • Support Ryerson’s Leave Specialist with WSIB claims
  • Conduct hazard assessments and risk analysis to identify hazards and establish safe work procedures, standards and corrective controls 
  • Lead incident investigations for all injuries and significant near misses. May include, coordination of government inspectors and regulatory agencies, identifying root causes and corrective actions
  • Maintain permits, licenses and regulatory records
  • Track safety performance metrics and analyze injury trends and environmental data
  • Contractor and supplier management
  • Ensure emergency preparedness plans are up to date
  • All other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupation Health and safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an EHS Management role in a manufacturing or metals service center environment
  • Metal industry experience is an asset
  • Working understanding of forklift, crane, and other industrial equipment is required
  • Must be well versed in Canadian OHS regulations (BC, AB, MB, ON, and QC focus).
  • Working understanding of WSIB and MOL processes.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Safety Offer(CSO) or equivalent certification is an asset
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to train employees
  • Bilingual in French and English is an asset
  • Ability to clearly communicate expectations and action plans
  • Ability to meet deadlines and effectively multi-task in a demanding environment
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and leadership abilities

Salary: $100,000-$150,0000 annually. A starting salary higher than $100,000 annually is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale.
