This is more than a compliance role — it's a strategic leadership opportunity within Ryerson’s evolving tax function. As Corporate Income Tax Manager, you will oversee complex U.S. federal and state income tax compliance and support quarterly and annual tax provisions under ASC 740. You'll also drive risk management, process optimization, and cross-functional collaboration while mentoring talent. Reporting directly to the Senior Tax Manager, this role plays a key part in shaping Ryerson’s tax strategy and operational excellence.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Prepare and review consolidated income tax provisions (ASC 740) for SEC filings, including supporting schedules and footnotes
- Manage and review federal, state, and local income tax returns, extensions, and estimated payments, ensuring all compliance deadlines are met
- Support tax research and planning initiatives, including analysis of legislative changes and business transactions
- Respond to IRS and state tax authority inquiries and support audit defense efforts, including FIN 48 documentation
- Maintain and enhance SOX 404 controls and standardize tax processes and procedures
- Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities across tax operations
- Supervise, mentor, and develop tax analysts and staff, fostering knowledge sharing within the team
- Collaborate with accounting, FP&A, legal, and other internal teams on tax matters and special projects

Requirements
- Bachelor’s in Accounting or CPA required. Master’s in Tax or JD preferred
- 8+ years of relevant experience, with a mix of public accounting (Big 4/national firm) and/or corporate tax department
- Strong technical knowledge of U.S. federal and state corporate income taxation, ASC 740, and tax compliance
- Experience with tax provision/compliance software (OneSource, Corptax, or similar)
- Solid project management, analytical, and communication skills
- Prior supervisory experience preferred but not required
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Salary: $118,000-$155,000 annually. A starting salary higher than $118,000 annually is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale.
