As a Credit Manager at Ryerson you will be responsible for managing the daily credit, collection and cash application activities of staff to insure the Company and Department Policies are adhered to.  The position requires strong leadership, critical thinking, problem solving, negotiation and motivational skills as well as proven organizational and excellent communication skills - verbal & written, attention to detail, ability to manage in a fast paced environment. The manager is the person who provides consistent technical support and coaching for the team and is aware of key business issues and initiatives.  Evaluate and analyze the credit quality of customers and industry sectors representing high-exposure and/or high risk, deliver targeted reports and recommendations to senior management.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Maintain close working relationships with the respective Service Center General Managers and Multi Market General Manager so that proper interpretation of the commercial objectives of the company can be translated into appropriate and effective credit policy.
  • Make credit decisions on behalf of the assigned Service Centers, in accordance with and up to the level of authority granted by the corporate credit policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate the credit quality of high-exposure and/or high-risk customers using qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Analyze credit risk factors such as income growth, quality of management, market share and potential industry risks.
  • Employ a variety of risk assessment tools to compare items such as liquidity, profitability, credit history and cash, with other companies of same industry, size, and geographic location.
  • Identify, recommend and implement business process improvements for credit, collections and cash application.
  • Work closely with third party collection agencies and/or outside attorneys to insure maximum recoveries.
  • Insure all Bad Debt write offs properly documented to comply with corporate policies and adhere to SOX compliance.
  • Properly document and perform all duties associated with bankrupt accounts in accords with company policy.
  • Play an integral role in developing and/or implementing technology solutions to increase operating efficiency and improve customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S. in Business, Finance, and/or Accounting, or 10+ years of commercial credit management experience. 
  • 7-10 years of progressively responsible commercial credit management experience in an industrial and/or service environment. 
  • NACM designation preferred.
  • Working knowledge of MS-Office Suite applications (MS-Excel, MS-Word and MS-Outlook), AS/400, SAP, and Dun & Bradstreet.
  • Strong team player with the ability to deal effectively with all levels and functions within the organization.
  • Possess leadership qualities, strong analytical, communication, and managerial skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 10 - 40%.

Salary: $97,024.40 - $145,536.60 annually. A starting salary higher than $97,024.40 is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commesurate with the compensation scale.
