As a material handler at Norlen, a Ryerson family of companies, you will be responsible for loading, unloading and moving material within the plant.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Operates forklifts to assist in loading or moving materials and products
- Conveys materials from storage or work sites to designated area, anticipating the needs and requests of departments and operators
- Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved
- Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves
- Loads materials into containers and install strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit
- Maintains supplies of packaging materials, keeps packaging areas neat and organized and disposes of used skids and packaging materials
- All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice
Requirements

- Has a high school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Previous material handling experience preferred but not required
- The ability to conduct one's self in a professional manner and to follow written policies pertaining to all practices in the workplace (i.e. safety, attendance, procedures, conduct, etc.)
- Successfully pass a skills-based assessment - evaluates your reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
- Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding
