As a Laser Operator at Ryerson, you will be responsible for the setup, operation, and inspection of laser equipment, ensuring that all parts meet specified print standards. Your duties will include starting up and shutting down laser machinery, setting the correct cutting parameters, and safely operating a forklift for material handling.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Startup & Shutdown of laser equipment
  • Set-up of correct cutting parameters and laser operation
  • Measure and verify that the parts produced meet print specs
  • Safely operate a forklift to handle materials
  • Document basic material, production and quality control issues
  • Participate in equipment preventative maintenance at the operator level
  • Working in a safe manner as outlined during training and use prescribed safety equipment including PPE
  • All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Requirements

  • Successfully pass a skills-based assessment - evaluates your reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
  • 1-3 years of laser operator or similar experience preferred, and 6 months of previous manufacturing experience
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Physical ability to pass physical requirements exam for vision and hearing, mobility, and lifting requirements
  • Ability to navigate on a computer to find information, enter information when prompted, and print as necessary
  • Keen attention to detail with strong organizational skills
  • Regular attendance, including being on time and ready to work at assigned start time, and ability to work assigned overtime, at times with short notice

Salary: This position is a Union position. Per Union contract this position pays $32.02. New employees hired shall receive eighty percent (85%) of the full rate for the first six months of employment.
