As a Manufacturing Engineer at Norlen, a Ryerson family of companies, you will be responsible for the establishment of engineering and technical limitations and application of equipment and production processes, including product launch. Evaluates manufacturing data from production facility and recommends changes to improve production efficiency and cost. Effective performance, professionalism and trust required to maintain company image.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Reviews product designs, production processes and procedures, and customer product specifications to recommend and justify machine tools, special equipment and tooling, to be incorporated in the capital and equipment budgets
- Assists in delivering strategic initiatives that will aid in compliance standards or the implementation of new systems, services or cost-effective solutions that will continuously improve performance
- Ensure that production targets are achieved in line with manufacturing plans through development of lean manufacturing methods and technical support for all operational departments
- Identifies gaps in best practice metrics and works with all levels in establishing and executing improvement plans and strategies
- Measures and track continuous improvement performance
- Identifies, develops, facilitates and measures impact of localized continuous improvement projects

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related area of study
- 3-5+ years of relevant work experience
- Is proficient in the use of SolidWorks computer-aided design/ manufacturing software for the development and improvement of manufacturing processes and improvement of machine capabilities, and the design of dies, fixtures, and other tooling to increase efficiency and reduce costs
- Strong quantitative and logical thinking skills, combined with the ability to think creatively in order to envision relationships between data, and communicate those findings to key decision-makers
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and understand new software products and concepts, including the ability to self-instruct using available texts and other resources
- Excellent organizational skills with emphasis on attention to detail, ability to organize tasks, manage multiple projects, create and maintain documentation, prioritize work, and meet deadlines with minimal direct supervision
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact across multiple departments and levels within a medium-to-large enterprise
