The Vice President of Sales sets and executes the company’s commercial strategy to drive profitable growth, expand market share, and strengthen key customer relationships. Operating in a steel distribution environment, this role provides enterprise‑level leadership while maintaining close alignment across sales, pricing, operations, and supply chain.
The VP of Sales builds and leads a high‑performing sales organization, establishes disciplined sales execution, and partners with Operations, Purchasing, Finance, and Marketing to deliver sustained margin and volume growth.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy aligned with company objectives, market conditions, and capacity constraints.
- Identify growth opportunities across existing customers, new accounts, end markets, and product lines.
- Monitor industry trends, competitive activity, and customer demand to inform strategic decisions.
- Lead, coach, and develop regional and national sales teams to achieve volume, revenue, and profitability targets.
- Establish clear performance expectations, KPIs, and accountability across the sales organization.
- Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to align sales commitments with production, inventory, and logistics capabilities.
- Work closely with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, pricing discipline, and margin improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with Purchasing to align sourcing strategies with customer demand and market conditions.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive sales leadership experience, preferably within steel distribution, metals, or industrial supply.
- Proven success leading large, geographically dispersed sales teams.
- Strong understanding of steel products, pricing dynamics, and supply chain considerations.
- Strategic thinker with strong commercial and financial acumen.
- Demonstrated ability to drive profitable growth in cyclical and competitive markets.
- Excellent leadership, coaching, and change-management skills.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and executive presence.
Salary $175,000 - $215,000 annually plus commission. A starting salary higher than $175K annually is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale.
